Hello, this is Mohan. Welcome to my Blog.
The way college education prevails in the future might be a major surprise for the common people especially the students, while for the people in industrial recruitment & academia it’s not going to be a big surprise on where the college education is heading…As of 2024, there is still a bigger gap between what college teaches a student versus what the industry expects during recruitment.
A major drawback that I had observed with data & patterns behind is concentration/sticking to a particular core subject for too many years (if not days). While previously, core industry specific skills were important, now we are heading towards a more cross industrial collaborative structure in which being expert in one specific core subject or arena doesn’t help anymore. For example, if you want to be a good Data Scientist in the future then you should have solid knowledge on Data Mining, analytics, statistics, fact checking, bit of programming/coding, investigative science, game theory, a good knowledge of A.I models, you must be passionate and curious in data mapping, investigative journalism, policy making, a bit of understanding in law, a bit of knowledge in stock markets, you need to think w.r.t the first principles, connect the dots etc…In 2024 you are just offered a U.G/P.G degree with only half of the skills that are probably taught & experimented.
The bottom line is that the college/universities of the future will be something like a big library with multi program conference halls where different subjects are taught. You will not have a fixed degree name during enrollment, however once you are completing you shall receive a specialization/certification in any domain that you were interested in and that you performed better in projects. It’s going to be a like a live Netflix arena…just like you browse movies in different categories/languages/journals you will browse different courses and custom make a degree of your own choice. Just cook your own degree, kitchen will be your University/College.
I’ll add more context to this blog in Part two..
